my cousin {jen} who lives out in LA works for a total jerk. her husband's grandpa {his most favorite relative} just died last week and this weekend is the memorial service so they're flying out today to rhode island and flying back to california on sunday. BUT her boss is trying to fire her right now because he claims she's taking a "vacation" and never gave him any notice and that she's just going there to hold her husband's hand {what?!}. basically, he insists she only take a day and a half in order to keep her job. that includes flying time. seriously.
so anyway, we're both pretty convinced he's trying to get rid of her so he doesn't have to pay her maternity leave {did i mention she's prego?? congrats jen!} and replacement fees, which he's already said he can't believe he has to pay. did i mention she's never taken a day off or called in sick in 6 months? yea, and he's trying to paint her as a completely irresponsible employee who makes her own schedule. uh huh. so this class act jerk should get slapped with a class act lawsuit. what do you think, would she win? {keep in mind that nobody wants to hire a pregnant woman full-time.}
Depends if CA is like AZ. Here it is a right to work state. They can fire you for ANYTHING. For picking your nose, for wearing the wrong shoes, anything.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you Jen. I hope it all works out. Bosses like that suck toilet wands.
that sucks. i saw on myspace that jen was pregant. so exciting and what a jerk to ruin a special time and stress her out.
ReplyDeletei would hope that she'd win but however i don't know anything about CA. here in CT, i was able to give my leave (meaning I'm not coming back after maternity leave) but still get paid for my maternity leave because: my leave began immediatley after my last day, meaning i worked right up until baby was born. since its paid for by disability, they had to pay me. jen should look online for the CA info...
fight,Jen... bosses like that will die very lonely and bitter... so do we get a name or an e-mail address??? hmmmmm
ReplyDeletetink's mom
our state is just like wannabe's state. you can be fired for anything, even if you look at someone the wrong way. You can file for unemployment though and usually win. But i can't believe whoever she works for doesn't have some sort of bereavement policy.
ReplyDeleteI had terrible bosses once, really horrible toilet wand sucking bosses. And when my grandfather had to be removed from life support out in vegas they had no qualms about the fact that i had to be gone for 5 days to cover the time from removal of life support to his cremation.
and i'm really tired of our workforce in the 21st ccentruy still giving women the short end of the stick over everything.
