iNeed

fabricsrme.jpg, originally uploaded by tinkerellen.

a new sewing machine. i really do. just something cheap and basic that doesn't require a lot of know-how to run and won't break down. ever. any suggestions? my current hand-me-down machine is sitting in parts on my floor, yellowed with time and rusting from lack of use due to some weird bobbin issue that i just cannot figure out no matter how many hours i waste on it. i also need to stop buying cute fabric until i own said new sewing device. because it too is now sitting on my floor, abandoned and lonely and wishing it could be something useful and cute stashed in my handbag.

  1. Or you can just buy from MaryMo like I do because I can't sew worth a crap. LOL! I have an old Singer that I'm going to take to get tuned up and a few friend is going to teach me the basics. I say the less fancy the better.

yep, there's a singer for under 100 at target that i was looking at. it only has 16 stitch functions, but i'm pretty sure i'll only need maybe three.

  3. try to find a sew shop that sells used machines. i got a used sewing machine for $60, and it's better than the one my mom has that she spent over $300 for!!

you don't still have the old machine from Mama, do you? And what is this "bobbin thing" problem? I still have my Pfaff and a cheapie Brother machine from Walmart, the Brother is so easy to oil and adjust, it may be worth checking on.

  6. you might also want to look into trading yours in, if you don't want to deal with repairing it.

  7. cheap machines are fine... just make sure you get one that will do button holes for you.

  8. Go to Target or Walmart (I won't tell anyone) and spend $100 on their Singer model. I've had this sewing machine for 8 years with one tuneup and it is still sewing like a champ.

jen! i am making one especially for your fun box!

kelli, thanks for visiting...did you buy the 89 dollar model or swing for the 129? i'm swaying towards the 129 just because of the bad comments from users on the 89...maybe this is biased since there's only one comment on the 129...ugh, so many decisions...
